Brett discovered his passion for helping other recovering persons early and at age 18 landed his first job at a residential treatment program. He went on to work at a number of programs including two of Atlanta’s prominent mental health hospitals.
Joel, already with a successful corporate career, began contemplating how he might shift his career to recovery. After many conversations with addiction professionals he was drawn to the idea of operating a recovery residence.
In 2001, Brett and Joel’s individual dreams began to merge as they began the process of becoming certified addiction counselors. By 2002, they started serious planning about creating a recovery residence and on May 1, 2003 their dream became a reality with the opening of Purple, an Atlanta treatment center.
Brett and Joel, co-founders of Purple rehab center, are a father-son team. Brett’s drug use as a teenager led them both into the recovery experience. The transformative power of that experience challenged both of them to want to do more.

When he arrived on the doorsteps of Purple Men’s Recovery, Adam was facing multiple felony charges as a consequence of drugs and alcohol addiction. Donna, his mom, came with him, scared and desperately hoping that this treatment would work and stop the heartache.
It was there that both of them ultimately found a home to begin the really hard work of recovery. Purple brought forth a strong sense of family and community connection igniting a spiritual bond and a passion for recovery in Adam and Donna.
Adam was immediately attracted to a sober environment with fellowship and fun. Like Brett, he realized that his true desire was to work helping others in recovery.
Donna remained committed to 12-step recovery meetings and Purple rehab center family group meetings where she, among other family members, were seeking answers and understanding. Today, Adam and Donna work together to share their experiences and carry the message of hope and recovery to clients and family members who find themselves right where they were.
